Hardwiring a V1 and GPS. Step2: Hardwiring the V1
Positioning the V1 radar unit at the top of the windshield blocked too much of my vision so I chose to mount the unit near bottom center. From this location, I was able to feed the flat V1 cable down into the front heating vent and back up again near the bottom of the passenger A-pillar. Following the outside edge of the dash, near the door hinges, the cable can be pushed back along the edge of the dash vinyl, into the area behind the glove box.
Below the dash, run the cable high, wire tie it in place and bring the end of the cable down behind the console into the area below the HVAC controls. Bring the cable out into the shift boot area. This cable plugs into the MAIN jack of the V1 Accessory/hardwire connector that is included with the V1.
The V1 Hardwire connector comes with wire ends to attach to a "vampire tap" and to a ground screw. We want to abandon the tap and replace these wire ends with snap connectors to attach to our power source.
Here is a photo of the V1 Accessory
Hardwire with the snap connectors attached.
Turn the V1 on and turn on the ignition. It should be active when the ignition switch is on and turned off with the ignition switch.
If you are not hardwiring any other devices, it is extremely important to cover the female snap connector on the red power cable with electrical tape as insulation against accidental connections. Also cover the unused male ground connector with tape. Since Rachel would be using only the switched power for her V1, we taped her unused connectors.
